Gift of textbooks donated to schools and students in Enugu State, Nigeria

At Choice Textile our charitable work is an integral part of our business. We are enthusiastic supporters of the work of Ihezie Foundation, of which Choice Textile Managing Director, Aloysius Ihezie, is the founding trustee.

We were proud to support the Ihezie Foundation throughout 2022, who have donated over 1.5 million educational books to schools in the UK and around the world. And just last month they shipped 80,000 textbooks to schools in Nigeria.

The Ihezie Foundation was pleased to partner with (local philanthropist) Ike Chioke of Afrinvest to make the donation possible. The Obioma Central School in Enugu State Nigeria will be the main beneficiary of the books along with many other surrounding primary, secondary schools and universities, who will also receive thousands of educational books for their libraries.

The Obioma Central School was established in 1941, the school stands out as part of the beautiful fruits of the age-grade system and communal self-help efforts of Igbo in Eastern Nigeria. It was one of the early educational institutions in the region, which helped to advance the course of numeracy, literacy and social development of many children in the region. The Ihezie Foundation is delighted to support the continued advancement of students in the school through the book donation.

Extensive renovations of the Obioma Central Schools were recently completed. The project, funded and supported by Ike Chioke, included the total refurbishment of the school and the addition of an ICT suite, library, medical room, new toilets and many other facilities, which will enhance the lives of students and teachers who attend the school for years to come.

Ike Chioke is an Executive Director of Afrinvest, an asset management company in Nigeria. Ike holds a B.Sc. Civil Engineering (First Class Honors) from the University of Ife, Osun State, Nigeria and attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he graduated with an M.Phil in Management Studies.
