Bogus Collectors

Nowadays there are many companies offering a door to door collection service for bags of clothes, shoes etc that you can leave outside your house for collection. You may have received flyers in your letter box offering such collections.

Some bogus collectors will often use charity names and falsified charity registration numbers on their flyers and bags. The only way to verify the collection is for a genuine charity is to check if the charity is registered. Unfortunately there are still instances when bogus collectors steal legitimate charity bags.

Each year in the UK, around £10 million income is lost by genuine charities because of poor-value, misleading and bogus door-to-door 'charity' clothing collections.

If you are ever in doubt about using a door to door collector the best thing to do is to take unwanted clothes to a charity shop or participating fundraising school.
